Habitas AlUla
Ashar Valley, AlUla — Our Habitas
Habitas AlUla sits in a box canyon in the Ashar Valley. Sandstone cliffs rise on both sides. The light reaches the valley floor only at specific angles throughout the day. Ninety-six villas occupy the canyon, each facing the formations rather than each other. Consequently, the architecture merges into the terrain rather than announcing itself against it.
Habitas is not a traditional luxury hotel. The founders built it around a philosophy of community, connection and cultural immersion. A daily programme of activities, cultural encounters and live music shapes the rhythm of every stay. Furthermore, guides take guests deep into the wider AlUla landscape. The experience therefore runs far deeper than the accommodation alone.

The Setting
The Ashar Valley encloses the camp on both sides. Cliffs up to sixty metres high frame every view from the villas and outdoor spaces. At dawn, the light enters the canyon at a low angle and illuminates the rock faces in warm amber. That quality of light lasts perhaps forty minutes before the sun rises fully above the rim. As a result, early mornings at Habitas AlUla carry a visual intensity that no other part of the day replicates. Beyond the canyon itself, Elephant Rock lies within easy reach and Hegra is a thirty-minute drive north — making the camp a strong base for the entire AlUla archaeological circuit.
Accommodation
The ninety-six villas at Habitas AlUla divide into three categories. Arabian Villas are the largest, with panoramic canyon views and generous indoor and outdoor living areas. Celestial Villas add telescopes and additional wellness amenities for guests who want a specific focus on the night sky. In addition, Alcove Wellness Villas centre around in-room spa treatments and a more contemplative stay. All villas include private shaded outdoor spaces and electric bikes for moving freely across the grounds. Moreover, the standard of finish across every category reflects serious attention to local craft and Saudi material traditions without imitating them.
Dining
Tama is the main restaurant at Habitas AlUla. The kitchen draws on fresh ingredients from AlUla farms and the wider Hejaz agricultural system, producing a menu that acknowledges Saudi culinary tradition without turning it into a museum piece. Breakfast on the open terrace facing the canyon walls is the most rewarding meal of the day. Additionally, the Ashar Deck hosts sunrise yoga sessions and evening events that use the natural rock formation as both backdrop and stage. Beyond Tama, the property runs periodic culinary experiences tied to the growing season and the wider AlUla food culture.

Programme and Experiences
Habitas runs a structured daily programme that connects guests to the AlUla landscape and its people. Archaeological guides lead excursions to Hegra and the Ikmah canyon inscriptions. Local artists and musicians perform within the canyon throughout the season. Additionally, wellness sessions use the natural setting — the rock, the light, the temperature — rather than working against it. The experience is deliberately more social than most desert camps in the region. However, for travellers who prefer solitude over community, the other AlUla properties offer a quieter register. Habitas suits those who want engagement with place alongside physical comfort.
