Shaden Resort AlUla
AlUla City, Saudi Arabia — Shaden Hospitality, managed by Accor
Shaden Resort AlUla occupies the centre of AlUla city, closer to the main heritage sites than any other property in the destination. Elephant Rock is minutes away by road. Hegra is a short drive north. The Old Town and the oasis lie within easy walking distance. Consequently, Shaden suits travellers who want to spend the majority of their time at the archaeological sites rather than commuting to them from a distant valley camp.
The resort opened in 2017 and underwent renovation in 2024. With 127 rooms and villas, it operates at a larger scale than the valley camps. The architecture draws on traditional Arabian forms — natural stone, earth tones and geometric detailing — and the property sits naturally within the AlUla townscape rather than isolating itself from it. Furthermore, Shaden is managed by Accor, which brings operational reliability and consistent service standards to a destination where hospitality infrastructure is still developing.

Location and Access
Shaden Resort AlUla sits on Hail Road at the heart of the city, placing it at the centre of AlUla’s geography rather than at its edge. Elephant Rock — the iconic natural formation rising twenty-one metres from the open desert — is a four-kilometre drive. Hegra, AlUla’s UNESCO-listed Nabataean site, is reachable in under thirty minutes. Additionally, the Old Town mud-brick settlement and the Dadan archaeological area are both accessible within minutes of the resort. As a result, guests who want to structure their days around consecutive site visits find this central position considerably more practical than the valley camps further into the desert.
Accommodation
The 127 rooms and villas divide across several categories, from superior rooms to larger villa configurations suitable for families and groups. All rooms include terraces or balconies, air conditioning and modern fittings throughout. The villa options provide additional living space and greater privacy for guests on longer stays. Moreover, the room standard reflects the 2024 renovation — the interiors are contemporary and well-appointed without the premium pricing of the smaller valley camps. Shaden therefore works well for families, for travellers combining AlUla with business commitments, and for those who prefer a conventional hotel structure over the camp format.
Dining and Facilities
Shaden Resort AlUla offers three dining venues. Al Badiah Restaurant serves a broad international and Middle Eastern menu in an elevated setting overlooking the resort grounds. Rock Café provides a more casual outdoor atmosphere with the surrounding mountain terrain as its backdrop. In addition, a large central pool offers a cooling retreat after long days at the archaeological sites — a detail that matters considerably given the AlUla climate between October and April. The spa, fitness centre and event spaces complete a full-service resort offer that the smaller camp properties do not provide.

When to Visit
October through April covers the comfortable season for AlUla travel. Shaden operates year-round, however, and the indoor facilities make it more functional in summer than the open-plan camp properties. January and February bring the winter festival season with additional cultural programming across AlUla. Therefore, guests who want maximum access to events and site programming should plan for this period and book well in advance. December and March offer the best conditions for extended outdoor exploration without the festival crowds.
Combining Shaden Resort AlUla with Other Destinations
Shaden Resort AlUla works naturally within a broader Saudi Arabia journey. Its central position makes it the most practical base for travellers who want to cover Hegra, Dadan, the Old Town and Elephant Rock thoroughly within a limited number of nights. The Red Sea coast to the west adds a coastal dimension to an otherwise desert and archaeology circuit. Additionally, combining AlUla with Diriyah and Riyadh gives a fuller picture of Saudi Arabia’s historical range from Nabataean northwest to early Saudi central heartland. Jordan’s Petra extends the Nabataean story further for those with the time to cross the border.
